Terms of Service
Last updated 22 September 2026
1. These terms
These terms are a contract between you and SPEND PILOT LTD, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17425596 and registered office at 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX ("SpendPilot", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the SpendPilot mobile application for iOS and Android, the website at spendpilot.co.uk, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These terms include, by reference:
- the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy;
- the Acceptable Use Policy;
- the Pricing and Availability Notice;
- the Meal Plan, Allergen and Nutrition Disclaimer;
- the Financial Information Disclaimer;
- the AI Transparency Notice;
- the Subscription, Billing and Refunds terms, when paid plans exist.
2. What SpendPilot is, and is not
SpendPilot is a grocery budgeting and meal planning tool. It helps you set a weekly or monthly food budget, generates a meal plan and shopping list that fits inside it, compares the estimated cost of that list across UK supermarkets, and links you to the supermarket to buy the items.
SpendPilot is not:
- a financial adviser, bank or payment service. We do not connect to your bank, hold your money, take payments or give regulated financial advice. Figures such as "safe to spend" and budget health scores are calculated from what you enter and are indicative only. See the Financial Information Disclaimer.
- a supermarket or a shop. We do not sell food. The in-app basket is a planning tool that estimates what a list would cost. When you buy, you buy from the supermarket, on its terms and at its price.
- affiliated with any supermarket. We are independent. Supermarket names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.
- a nutritionist, dietitian or medical service. Meal plans are suggestions, not medical or dietary advice. See the Meal Plan, Allergen and Nutrition Disclaimer.
3. Who can use SpendPilot
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. The Service is currently offered to people in the United Kingdom. We will update these terms when we launch in other countries.
If we reasonably believe you are under 18 we may suspend or close your account.
4. Your account
- Keep your login details confidential and tell us at once if you think your account has been compromised.
- You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to keep the Service secure.
- Give us accurate information and keep it up to date.
- One account per person. You may not transfer your account to anyone else.
5. Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the SpendPilot app on devices you own or control, for your own household's non-commercial use, in line with these terms. This licence is the end user licence agreement for the app.
You may not:
- copy, modify, translate, reverse engineer, decompile or create derivative works of the app or any part of the Service, except where the law allows;
- rent, sell, sublicense or otherwise make the Service available to others;
- remove or alter any notices, trademarks or labels;
- use the Service to build a competing product, or extract prices, recipes or other data from it by automated means;
- use the Service in any way described as prohibited in the Acceptable Use Policy.
6. Prices, availability and supermarket links
Prices shown in SpendPilot are collected from the supermarkets' public websites at the time of your request and are estimates. They may not match the price you pay because of local pricing, loyalty scheme or multibuy conditions, stock changes, delivery or collection charges, timing, or errors in what we collect. Availability by postcode is indicative.
We add a small allowance to basket totals to absorb ordinary price movements. This does not guarantee that a basket will cost what we show.
When you tap a supermarket link you leave SpendPilot and enter a website or app we do not control. The supermarket's terms and privacy policy apply from that point. We are not responsible for anything on their site or for any purchase you make there.
The Pricing and Availability Notice explains how this works in detail and forms part of these terms.
7. Meal plans, allergens and food safety
Meal plans and swap suggestions are generated from recipes in our database and product information published by supermarkets and manufacturers, filtered by the dietary selections you have made. That information can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and recipes and products change.
You must always check the label and the recipe yourself before buying, preparing or eating anything. If you or anyone in your household has a serious allergy or a medical condition affected by diet, do not rely on SpendPilot alone.
The Meal Plan, Allergen and Nutrition Disclaimer forms part of these terms.
8. AI-generated content
Plans, swaps and some text in the Service are generated with artificial intelligence. AI can make mistakes. Everything it produces is a suggestion for you to review, and you can change, ignore or override any of it. See the AI Transparency Notice.
9. Your content
Budgets, lists, plans, spending entries and other material you put into the Service are yours. You give us a licence to store, process and display that content for the purpose of providing the Service to you, and to use it in aggregated, anonymised form to improve the Service. You are responsible for content you add and must not add anything unlawful or that infringes anyone's rights.
You can export and delete your content at any time. See Your Data Rights.
10. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, recipe database, logos and the SpendPilot name, is owned by SPEND PILOT LTD or its licensors and protected by intellectual property law. Nothing in these terms gives you any rights in it beyond the licence in section 5.
Supermarket names, logos and product names belong to their owners. Their appearance in the Service does not mean they endorse SpendPilot.
11. Third-party services
The Service depends on services we do not control, including supermarket websites, the Apple App Store and Google Play, and our AI provider. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy or conduct. If a supermarket changes its website so that we can no longer collect prices from it, that supermarket may disappear from comparisons.
12. Price of the Service
SpendPilot is currently free. We may introduce paid plans later. If we do, we will publish the price and terms in advance, and we will never charge you without your agreement. Any free features you rely on may change when paid plans launch, but we will give you reasonable notice. The Subscription, Billing and Refunds terms will apply to any paid plan.
13. Changes to the Service and to these terms
We may add, change, suspend or remove features. Where a change materially reduces what the Service does we will give you reasonable notice, unless the change is needed urgently for legal, security or safety reasons.
We may change these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using the Service and delete your account. Continuing to use the Service after the change takes effect means you accept it.
14. Ending this agreement
14.1 By you
You can stop using SpendPilot at any time and delete your account in Settings > Account > Delete account. Deleting your account deletes your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
14.2 By us
We may suspend or close your account if:
- you materially breach these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy;
- we are required to by law;
- we reasonably believe your use puts other users, our systems, a supermarket's systems or a third party at risk;
- we reasonably believe you are under 18.
Unless the breach is serious or the law prevents it, we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to put it right first. Where we close your account we will give you a reasonable opportunity to export your data unless the law or a security risk prevents it.
14.3 Effect
On termination your licence ends and you must stop using the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive, including 6, 7, 8, 10, 15, 16 and 18, continue to apply.
15. Disclaimers
We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill.
Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error free or secure against every threat; that any price, availability, saving or nutritional figure is accurate or complete; that any plan will fit your budget in practice; or that using the Service will save you money.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights that we cannot exclude. If you are a consumer in the European Union, equivalent rights under your national law apply. Where anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your rights win.
16. Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Subject to that:
If you are a consumer. We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable, or for loss caused by a supermarket, by a price or product information error on a supermarket's website, or by your decision to buy or eat something without checking it as section 7 requires. We are not liable for loss arising because you used the Service for business purposes.
If defective digital content we supply damages your device or other digital content, and we have not used reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or pay compensation as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires.
If you are a business. We exclude all implied warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity, and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 and the amount you paid us in that period.
17. Complaints and disputes
If something goes wrong, email [email protected]. We aim to acknowledge within 2 working days and to resolve complaints within 30 days.
If we cannot resolve your complaint, we will tell you whether we are willing to use an alternative dispute resolution provider and, if so, which one. You can also bring a claim in court as set out below.
18. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring a claim in the courts of your home nation, and you benefit from any mandatory consumer protections that apply there. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, you benefit from the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country and may bring a claim in your local courts.
19. General
Transfer. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation, and will tell you if we do. Your rights will not be reduced.
Severability. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues in force.
No waiver. If we do not enforce a right immediately, we do not lose it.
Entire agreement. These terms and the policies referred to in them are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
Language. These terms are provided in English, and English is the governing language.
20. Apple App Store
This section applies if you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store. It is required by Apple.
- This agreement is between you and SPEND PILOT LTD only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Your licence is limited to using the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or privacy legislation.
- If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property rights, SPEND PILOT LTD, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a terrorist supporting country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement and may enforce it against you.
21. Google Play
This section applies if you downloaded the app from Google Play. Your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Where the Google Play Terms conflict with these terms in relation to distribution, the Google Play Terms prevail to the extent of the conflict.
