Meal Plan, Allergen and Nutrition Disclaimer

Last updated 22 September 2026

This disclaimer forms part of our Terms of Service. Please read it before relying on any meal plan, recipe, shopping list or swap suggestion in SpendPilot.

1. What SpendPilot's meal plans are

SpendPilot builds meal plans and shopping lists from recipes in our own database, chosen to fit your budget, household size and the dietary selections you have made. Plans are generated with the help of artificial intelligence. They are suggestions to help you plan and shop. They are not medical advice, dietetic advice or a substitute for either.

2. Always check the label

SpendPilot's dietary filters depend on:

  • the ingredient and allergen tags in our recipe database;
  • product and allergen information published by supermarkets and manufacturers, which we collect automatically and cannot verify;
  • the product matches we make between a recipe ingredient and a supermarket product.

Any of these can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Recipes change. Manufacturers change ingredients. Supermarkets substitute products. A "vegan" filter, a "nut free" filter or a "halal" filter can only ever be as good as the information behind it.

Before you buy, prepare or eat anything, check the product label and the recipe yourself. This matters most if you or someone in your household has a food allergy or intolerance, a medical condition affected by diet, or a religious dietary requirement.

3. Allergies

If you or anyone you cook for has a serious allergy:

  • do not rely on SpendPilot alone to keep allergens out of your shopping;
  • read the ingredients and "may contain" statements on every product, every time, including products you have bought before;
  • treat swap suggestions with the same care as original items. A swap is a different product with a different label;
  • when allergen information for a product is missing or unclear, assume the allergen may be present.

SpendPilot is not a medical device and does not detect allergens.

4. Medical diets and health conditions

If you follow a diet for a medical reason, such as coeliac disease, diabetes, kidney disease or a condition managed with a low FODMAP diet, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your GP, a registered dietitian or another qualified professional before changing what you eat. SpendPilot's filters do not know your medical history and cannot check that a plan is safe or suitable for you.

5. Nutrition figures

Where SpendPilot shows calories, portions or other nutrition information, those figures are estimates based on typical values for ingredients and standard portion sizes. Actual values vary with the brand, the pack, how you cook and how much you serve. Do not use SpendPilot's figures to manage a medical condition or as a basis for a very low calorie or restrictive diet. If you have a history of disordered eating, please take care with calorie targets and speak to a professional.

Words such as "balanced", "healthy" or "high protein" in the Service are general descriptions, not health claims about any particular product.

6. Food safety

Recipes assume ordinary food safety practice. Store food at the right temperature, follow use-by dates, cook meat, poultry, fish and eggs thoroughly, and follow the cooking and storage instructions on the packaging, which take priority over anything in a recipe.

7. Children and vulnerable people

Plans sized for a household are not tailored to the nutritional needs of babies, young children, older adults or anyone with particular medical needs. Use your own judgement and seek professional advice where appropriate.

8. Reporting a problem

If you find a recipe or product that is wrongly tagged for an allergen or dietary requirement, please tell us at once using Report a problem on the item, or by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Allergen". We treat allergen reports as a priority.

9. Our responsibility

We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in this disclaimer limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, we are not responsible for harm arising from product or allergen information published by a supermarket or manufacturer, from a purchase you make on a supermarket's website, or from a decision to eat something without checking it as this disclaimer requires.
